The Adventures of Lily Raccoon and Peter Pancreas

For this Project I created a children's narrative about type one diabetes and being diagnosed. I realised that some books for children were more for KS2 rather than KS1, seeing this I wanted to fill that gap in the market.

I have grown up with many people in my family being type one diabetic. In 2022 my younger sibling was diagnosed with type one diabetes at age eleven and three-quarters, my younger cousin was seven at the time and didn't really understand what it meant. When we explained it to her in words she could understand, she went on and educated her friends on the playground about type one diabetes. This shows that young children can understand 'difficult' topics as long as it is in words they can understand, this is what I aimed to do with this book.
